Losing Weight Smartly: Focus

focus

Most people on a weight loss program focus exactly on that: losing the weight.  Basically, they set their sights upon a negative aspect of their body (an extra 20 pounds, a large belly or puffy cheeks) and make it their goal to get rid of it.  While it’s not bad, that’s not necessarily the best way to go about weight loss either.

For one, the goal itself will be short-lived.  Once you lose that 20 pounds, then what?  Are you just going to return to your old way of living?

Secondly, it’s a negative way to look at life.  For many, seeing that ugly bulge of a belly is a painful reminder that they need to banish so they can feel good about their bodies.  Not exactly how you want to live from day-to-day, right?

Instead of going about your fitness goals like it’s a wrong thing you will need to set right, you can instead look at it as a way to invite good things in your life.  Instead of focusing on losing the unwanted pounds, why not retrain your mind to set its sights on gaining fitness?

After all, that’s what you’re eventually after anyway.  When you’re trying to gain fitness, you eat better food, stay more active and do things that a fit person does.  That kind of focus results not just in weight loss but further gains in even more aspects of your life.  Even better, the goal doesn’t expire.  You can embrace gaining fitness as a continuous way of life well into your old age.
